CPHHS joins Planetary Health Alliance

Oregon State University’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences has joined the Planetary Health Alliance, a global consortium of more than 150 universities, nongovernmental organizations, research institutes and government entities from more than 30 countries that are committed to advancing planetary health.

Planetary health is an interdisciplinary field focused on the human health impacts of global environmental change. Members share a common interest in advancing research, education, policy and public outreach efforts focused on understanding and addressing these impacts.

The alliance was established in 2016 with support from the Rockefeller Foundation. It is based at Harvard University and includes a steering committee of international experts.

The alliance’s goals are building a global planetary health community that crosses sectors, disciplines, generations, and geographies; facilitating the training of the next generation of planetary health scholars through the development of mentorship opportunities and foundational open-access educational resources from primary to university levels; and mainstreaming planetary health science through broad public outreach and direct engagement with policy makers.

The alliance publishes monthly newsletters and hosts an annual meeting. Membership to PHA is free.
