Four Oregon State University researchers have been named to the 2022 list of Highly Cited Researchers compiled by international analytics firm Clarivate.

The OSU honorees are Zhenxing Feng, professor of chemical engineering; Xiulei “David” Ji, professor of chemistry; William Ripple, distinguished professor of forestry; and Maoyu Wang, a recent doctoral graduate and member of Feng’s lab now working as a postdoctoral fellow at Argonne National Laboratory.

Wang and Feng have conducted pioneering research involving catalysts that shows hydrogen can be cleanly produced with much greater efficiency and at a lower cost than is possible with current commercially available catalysts.

Ji is a leader in developing new, more sustainable battery chemistries and just received a $3 million U.S. Department of Energy grant to explore batteries that don’t rely on rare elements such as lithium and nickel.

Ripple, an ecologist, has conducted extensive research involving wolves’ reintroduction to Yellowstone National Park and in recent years has become a global voice for climate change mitigation action through his scientists’ warning and climate emergency compendium papers.

The Oregon State scientists were named to the Clarivate list, published annually since 2001, based on their publication of multiple papers frequently cited by their peers over the last decade.

In all, the 2022 list includes 6,938 researchers from across the globe and 2,764 from the United States.
