The center will be dedicated at 2 p.m., Nov. 10 in Snell Hall Suite 150, on the Oregon State Corvallis campus.
Holcomb was born June 11, 1946 in Richland, Oregon. He died Dec. 3, 1968 in Vietnam, where he was serving as an infantry squad leader in Company D, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Calvary Division. During an enemy attack near Quần Lợi, Holcomb led his squad and later his platoon, after all other platoon leaders had been killed, in the defense of their position. Holcomb was mortally wounded during the battle and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his leadership.
Oregon State President Jayathi Murthy and a family member of Holcomb’s will speak during the dedication. The president of the Student Veteran’s Association will also read the Medal of Honor citation. A number of Holcomb’s relatives are expected to attend the dedication.
