Auditions for OSU’s spring production, ‘Sense and Sensibility,’ to be held March 3-4

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Auditions for Oregon State University Theatre’s spring production, “Sense and Sensibility,” will be held at 6 p.m. March 3 and 4 in the Withycombe Main Stage theatre, 2901 S.W. Campus Way, Corvallis.

Based on Jane Austen’s novel, this adaptation by Kate Hamill tells the story of the Dashwood sisters, who with their formidable mother, are left with a meager inheritance and few options after their father dies unexpectedly. The kind and patient Elinor and her passionate younger sister, Marianne, face the challenges of growing up and finding love within the rigid structure of English society in the 1790s.

The play features a flexible ensemble cast of 10 to 12 performers, with most people in the production playing two to three characters. Auditions are open to OSU students, staff, faculty and community members. Those auditioning should be prepared to do cold readings from the script, games and movement exercises. Scripts are available for checkout in the Withycombe Theatre main office, room 145.

A cast read-through and meeting will be held March 10. Rehearsals will begin April 1 and run regularly from noon to 6 p.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Technical/dress rehearsals will be held May 4 through 8 and performances are May 9-11 and May 17-19.

All cast members must be available for all technical rehearsals and performances. Those auditioning should review their schedules and bring any conflicts to the audition.
