CORVALLIS, Ore. – Poet and essayist Wendy Willis and memoirist Steven Moore will read at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at the Black Box Lab Theatre in Withycombe Hall on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. A book signing will follow.
Willis’ most recent collection of essays, “These are Strange Times, My Dear,” was published in February 2019 and is currently a finalist for the Oregon Book Award. Her latest book of poems, “A Long Late Pledge,” won the Dorothy Brunsman Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the 2019 Oregon Book Award.
Willis is the founder and director of the Kitchen Table at Portland State University, and she serves as Executive Director of the Deliberative Democracy Consortium. She teaches poetry at the Attic Institute in Portland.
Moore’s debut book, “The Longer We Were There: A Memoir of a Part-Time Soldier,” won the 2018 AWP Prize for Creative Nonfiction.
Moore’s work has also appeared in Kenyon Review online, The Georgia Review, Entropy, North American Review, and many other publications. He is a contributing editor at Moss: A Journal of the Pacific Northwest and holds an MFA in creative writing from Oregon State University.
The reading is part of the 2019-2020 Literary Northwest Series, which brings accomplished writers from the Pacific Northwest to OSU. This series is sponsored by the MFA Program in Creative Writing at OSU, with support from the OSU Libraries and Press, the OSU School of Writing, Literature, and Film, the College of Liberal Arts, Kathy Brisker and Tim Steele, and Grass Roots Books and Music.
The event is free and open to the public. Withycombe Hall is located at 2921 SW Campus Way in Corvallis.
