CORVALLIS, Ore. – Essayist Jia Tolentino will read at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the Lab Theatre in Withycombe Hall on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.
Tolentino, a staff writer at The New Yorker, is the author of the essay collection “Trick Mirror,” published by Penguin Random House this year. The book is a New York Times Bestseller that explores the complexities and contradictions of contemporary life.
Previously, Tolentino worked as the deputy editor at Jezebel and as a contributing editor at The Hairpin. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Grantland, Pitchfork, Time, Slate and other publications.
Tolentino attended the University of Virginia and holds a master of fine arts in fiction writing from the University of Michigan. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
The reading is part of the 2019-2020 Visiting Writers Series, which brings nationally acclaimed writers to Oregon State University. This series is sponsored by the MFA Program in Creative Writing at OSU, with support from the OSU Libraries and Press, the OSU School of Writing, Literature, and Film, the College of Liberal Arts, Kathy Brisker and Tim Steele and Grass Roots Books and Music.
The event is free and open to the public. Withycombe Hall is located at 2921 SW Campus Way, Corvallis.
