Former deputy commander of U.S. Cyber Command to speak Oct. 29 at OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Retired Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, former deputy commander of U.S. Cyber Command, will deliver a presentation on cybersecurity Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the LaSells Stewart Center, 875 SW 26th St. on the Corvallis campus of Oregon State University.

The 60-minute lecture, titled “Defend the Internet – Cybersecurity: Protecting the Fifth Domain,” starts at 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Earlier in the day, Stewart will meet with university leadership as well as hold two information sessions with other members of the Oregon State community. He’ll talk with students and faculty from the colleges of Business and Engineering at 2 p.m. in the Horizon Room at the Memorial Union, and will meet with representatives of OSU’s cultural centers at 3:30 p.m. at the Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Stewart emigrated to the United States at age 13. He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1981 and was commissioned in the Marine Corps the same year.

He served as an armor officer, a signals intelligence officer and intelligence officer, earning master’s degrees in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College and in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He retired this year as U.S. Cyber Command’s deputy commander.
