Giustina Gallery at OSU to exhibit ‘My Secret Double’ Oct. 1-30

Sept. 20, 2019

CORVALLIS, Ore. – “My Secret Double – an International Exhibition,” featuring the works of artists from the Northwest and the Baltics, will be on display Oct. 1 through Oct. 30 in the Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis.

The exhibit captures artists’ personal journeys during their struggle with addiction or depression, including anger, suicide, fear and loss of hope.

An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the gallery. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

Thirty-nine artists and more than 50 artworks will be represented in the exhibit. The art forms include paintings, fiber, tapestry, photography, drawing, sculpture and mixed media.

The exhibit will combine both the juried show of Northwest artists and a traveling exhibit from Latvia. The collaborative show will demonstrate that addiction, depression and suicide are global issues, while providing opportunities for connection to community services for those who are struggling with these issues.

The show was jointly curated by Tina Green-Price of the Giustina Gallery and Madara Ladzina of Imago Dei Latvia.

Featured artists include Aleksejs Naumovs of Latvia, Dzemma Skulme of Latvia, Vilen Vilen Künnapu  of Estonia, Bill Shumway of Oregon, Charles David Kelley of Oregon and Delores Pollard of Oregon.

Free outreach sessions and workshops about addiction issues in the community will held at The LaSells Stewart Center throughout October. More information is available on the LaSells Center website.

The exhibit is made possible by Bridge Builders International; Partneri, a Latvian company helping bring art from Latvia; and Oregon State University's College of Liberal Arts, College of Public Health and Human Sciences; Counseling and Psychological Services; and The LaSells Stewart Center.

The Giustina Gallery is located at 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is also open some evenings and weekends, depending on scheduled events.
