CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends are uniting May 21 for the annual OSU Days of Service event with nearly 20 volunteer opportunities in Oregon, Washington and California.
This year marks a return to in-person service projects after the pandemic caused a two-year hiatus. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for a local service project in their area, including:
- Bruce Starker Arts Park & Natural Area cleanup and Organic Growers Club Student Farm, both in Corvallis.
- Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial cleanup in Portland.
- Sorting and unpacking food at Food Lifeline in Seattle.
“Beavers are out there making a difference every day,” said John Valva, vice president of alumni engagement and executive director of the OSU Alumni Association. “They steward public lands and steer boards and committees. They are regulars at local PTA meetings, little league games, food banks, blood drives and much more.”
Days of Service, which began May 11 and concludes May 21, started in 2009 and draws hundreds of volunteers each year.
“This annual Days of Service event both challenges our university community to rise to the occasion and shows gratitude for their everyday contributions that fly under the radar,” Valva said.
Volunteers can sign up for in-person service sites and record their service hours at ForOregonState.org/Service. Volunteers can also sign up for virtual or at-home projects on that site.
OSU Days of Service is sponsored by Toyota and Aztec Embroidery & Screenprinting.
