CORVALLIS, Ore. – Portland-based poet Anis Mojgani, a two-time National Poetry Slam champion, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 6 in the Lab Theatre in Withycombe Hall on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.
Mojgani is the author of five poetry collections: “In the Pockets of Small Gods,” “The Pocketknife Bible,” “Songs From Under The River,” “The Feather Room” and “Over the Anvil We Stretch,” all published by Write Bloody Publishing.
His work, inspired in part by his black and Iranian heritage, has also appeared on HBO and NPR, as well as in journals including Rattle, Paper Darts, Forklift Ohio, and Used Furniture Review. Mojgani is also an award-winning performer who has performed at places ranging from the House of Blues to the United Nations. He is also a winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam.
Mojgani, originally from New Orleans, is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design and has served multiple times as a TEDx Speaker. He has been awarded residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, AIR Serenbe and the Oregon Literary Arts Writers-in-the-Schools program.
The reading is part of the 2017-2018 Visiting Writers Series, which brings nationally acclaimed writers to Oregon State University. The series is sponsored by the MFA Program in Creative Writing at OSU, with support from the OSU Libraries and Press, the OSU School of Writing, Literature, and Film, the College of Liberal Arts, Kathy Brisker and Tim Steele, and Grass Roots Books and Music.
The event is free and open to the public. Withycombe Hall is located at 2921 S.W. Campus Way, Corvallis. The lab theatre entrance is on the east side of the building.
