Novelist John Larison to read at Oregon State University May 3

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Novelist John Larison will read at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the Valley Library Rotunda on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.

Larison’s most recent novel, “Whiskey When We’re Dry,” follows the story of 17-year-old Jesse Harney as she navigates the world of 19th century outlaws in the American West. The novel was named a best book by O Magazine, Goodreads and Entertainment Weekly; was a September 2018 Indie Next Pick; and was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. It is currently being adapted into a feature film.

His previous books include the novels “Northwest of Normal” and “Holding Lies” as well as the fly-fishing guide “The Complete Steelheader.” He is a frequent contributor to outdoor magazines, including Angler’s Journal and The Drake.

Larison earned his MFA in fiction from Oregon State University in 2007. He has served as a writing instructor at OSU since his graduation.

This reading is part of the 2018-2019 Literary Northwest Series, which brings accomplished writers from the Pacific Northwest to OSU. This series is sponsored by the MFA Program in Creative Writing at OSU, with support from the OSU Libraries and Press, the OSU School of Writing, Literature, and Film, the College of Liberal Arts, Kathy Brisker and Tim Steele, and Grass Roots Books and Music.

The event is free and open to the public. The Valley Library is located at 201 SW Waldo Place, Corvallis.
