Open house set for new OSU Portland Center

Jan. 7, 2019

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon State University is inviting all Oregonians to an open house on Jan. 14 to celebrate the grand opening of the OSU Portland Center in the historic Meier & Frank Building in downtown Portland.

“We welcome everyone to join us at the open house and learn more about how OSU is expanding its decades of service to the Portland region,” said Steve Clark, vice president of University Relations and Marketing. “The open house will offer more than two dozen exhibits of OSU programs; sessions targeting Gen Z, employers and the workforce; and myriad ways to engage with the university.

“If you are an Oregon Duck, PSU Viking or a follower of any other college or university, please join us. We are all Oregonians.”

The open house will be held from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 in the OSU Portland Center located at 555 SW Morrison St., adjacent to Pioneer Courthouse Square. Visitors will be able explore the center and talk to representatives from Oregon State colleges and divisions to learn about their programs, including admissions to OSU. Light refreshments will be provided.

OSU’s College of Business will host three informative salon sessions on how businesses can leverage workforce trends and changes for success. Each session will be led by college experts. The salons will be followed by a networking session with faculty and Portland business leaders; refreshments will be served. Reservations are not required but requested for the following sessions:

  • 4-4:30 p.m. Work with Gen Z: How to attract the next generation of business leaders.
  • 4:30-5 p.m. Upskilling: Strategies to keep and develop high-value employees in today's economy.
  • 4:30-5 p.m. Gen Z in the C-Suite: Tomorrow’s leaders in today’s family businesses.
  • 5-6 p.m. Networking for Corporate Solutions: #beaversmeanbusiness and what that means to employees and businesses.

The OSU Portland Center is the home for expanded academic offerings in the Portland region and offices for OSU Extension Service, the OSU Foundation, the OSU Alumni Association, OSU Athletics and the OSU Advantage, the university’s private industry partnership and commercialization initiative. It also will offer meeting space for events.

The Portland Center builds upon numerous Oregon State Portland-based initiatives, including:

* The Food Innovation Center in the Pearl District;

* College of Pharmacy teaching and research in the Collaborative Life Sciences Building in the South Waterfront district;

* OSU Extension programs and offices throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties;

* College of Business MBA hybrid programs in the Collaborative Life Sciences Building;

* Numerous education and research partnerships with Portland State University and OHSU;

* College of Veterinary Medicine collaboration with the Oregon Humane Society; and

* Numerous partnerships with local school districts, non-profit organizations and private industry.

The university spent the past year renovating the nearly 40,000-square-foot second floor of the building to serve as a hub for Oregon State Portland-based operations.

The historic 15-story Meier & Frank Building is located between Southwest Fifth and Southwest Sixth   avenues, and Southwest Alder and Southwest Morrison streets. The Nines Hotel occupies the 6th through the 15th floors of the building. While OSU occupies the entire second floor, retail stores occupy the ground floor and additional tenants will be located in the 3rd through 5th floors. Tri-Met’s MAX light rail lines serve the facility on three sides of the Meier & Frank Building block.
