CORVALLIS, Ore. – “SUPEREGIONAL,” an exhibition of work by Corvallis artist Bruce Burris, will run Feb. 5 through March 1 in Oregon State University’s Fairbanks Gallery of Art, 220 S.W. 26th St., Corvallis.

In addition to the exhibition of his own work in Fairbanks Gallery, Burris has curated an exhibition titled “Storming the Academy” for the newly designated Woodshop Projects space in the basement of Fairbanks Hall.

An opening reception for both exhibitions will take place on Feb. 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Fairbanks Hall. Storming the Academy will feature OSU performance artists Amy Gibson, Jennifer McCloskey and drone music practitioners Chris Durnin and Matt Kellan. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Burris has worked in the field of arts and disability culture for more than 35 years. He has served as the founder, director or owner of a number of agencies and programs noted for creating innovative support systems to enable people to assume roles of significance in their community. He is currently the artworks director at Collaborative Employment Innovations (CEI) in Corvallis and the founder of Outpost 1000.

Burris describes the work in SUPEREGIONAL as “slouching toward commentary, poignancy and satire.” He said he hopes to provoke an awareness of the emotions we strive so diligently to ignore and forget.

“The work in SUPEREGIONAL concerns the lives of people close up and the chaos we conjure, close by, not necessarily in a representational or figurative sense, but rather more like a message found in a bottle,” Burris said. “The narratives can be read any which way the eye and mind determines would be best.”

Storming the Academy, a multi-media exhibition, features the work of visual artists Holly Hoover, Tim Stapleton, Kevin Buster, Jeremy Cheney, Ben Ricker, Johnny Beaver, Rachel Mulder, Tenya Rodriguez, Larry Supnet, Lisa Wells, Jamie Walsh, Larry Hurst, Cherisse Pacheco, David Hunt, Kwang Lee, Shirley Beebe, G’regorian Bahl, Subarna Talukder Bose, Patrick Hackleman, Matt Conklin, Dale Leroy Scott, Kris Askew, Ruth Van Order, Susan Woods, Kurt Fisk, Anthony Hayes and Linda Bach.

Fairbanks Gallery is located on the first floor of Fairbanks Hall and is open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 8 and on Feb. 18 for the Corvallis Art Walk.

Woodshop Projects is located in Fairbanks room 004 and is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 8 and Feb. 18 for the Corvallis Art Walk.
