CORVALLIS, Ore. — After serving in various roles for OSU Libraries over the last 17 years, Anne-Marie Deitering has been appointed the interim Donald and Delpha Campbell University Librarian at Oregon State University.
Deitering, who has been OSU’s associate university librarian for learning services for four years, begins her interim appointment Jan. 1. She will oversee a staff of more than 100 people in the libraries and OSU Press. Since joining OSU Libraries in 2003, Deitering has held several other positions, including leading the Library Teaching and Engagement Department from 2013-2016.
She is stepping into the interim role following the departure of Faye Chadwell, who has led the university library system since 2011 and recently accepted a position leading the libraries at Penn State University.
The promotion is bittersweet for Deitering, who said she will miss Chadwell a great deal.
“I am very passionate about OSU Libraries and Press, and Faye’s vision and leadership have been a big part of why,” Deitering said. “She has very big shoes to fill. However, the management team we have at OSU Libraries and Press is amazing, and I am both humbled and grateful that they are with me in taking on this challenge.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, OSU’s libraries continue to reinvent their services to meet the university’s digital and in-person needs, while also having important conversations around healthy work environments, anti-racist practices and access to increasingly costly scholarly information.
“I will consider myself successful in this position if we continue to respond to our daily challenges with the creativity and collaboration we have brought to our work in the last year and continue moving forward on those deeper, ongoing challenges,” Deitering said.
The interim appointment is expected to last up to one year as the university searches for a new university librarian.
“OSU is fortunate to have Anne-Marie Deitering able to step in and lead the important work and services provided faculty, staff, students and the public by OSU Libraries and Press,” said Susan Capalbo, senior vice provost for faculty affairs.
