OSU Wind Ensemble performs Grainger and more March 3 at Oregon State

Feb. 25, 2019

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University Wind Ensemble presents its winter term performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at the LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University in Corvallis.

Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy” opens the program. The six-movement work has been a mainstay of the concert stage since its premiere in 1937. Grainger thought of each movement as a “bunch of wildflowers” that he dedicated to the folk singers from which the work is derived.

Other works include Jess Turner’s “Rumpelstilzchen,” a musical depiction of the fairytale; “Three American Icons,” a conspiracy-theory tinged suite by English composer Judith Bingham; two movements from Michael Daugherty’s “Reflections on the Mississippi” featuring student tuba soloist Emily Rumpca; and the premieres of “Magna Chao” by Oregon State student Eric Russell and “The Mountain Spring” by OSU student Kevin Rooney.

The performance is directed by Chris Chapman.

General admission tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door. OSU students with ID and K-12 youth admitted will be admitted free. Corvallis Arts For All discounts apply. Tickets are available online at: liberalarts.oregonstate.edu/musicevents. To request accommodations relating to a disability call 541-737-4671.

The LaSells Stewart Center is located at 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis.
