CORVALLIS, Ore. – Four community listening sessions are scheduled in March to gather input on future public safety needs and services at Oregon State University’s Corvallis campus.
“Engagement and input from members of the Corvallis campus community are a key part of an on-going OSU process to evaluate the best way to advance public safety,” said Steve Clark, Oregon State’s vice president of university relations and marketing. “OSU students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Corvallis community, are encouraged to participate in these listening sessions.”
Public safety on the Corvallis campus will undergo a transition when a contract with the Oregon State Police for licensed law enforcement services ends June 30, 2020. In response, the OSU Public Safety Advisory Committee was reconvened in fall 2019 to evaluate and provide recommendations regarding public safety services for the Corvallis campus beginning July 1. The committee also will evaluate long-term public safety needs and services beginning July 1, 2022. The committee represents the campus community and includes students, faculty and staff.
Community listening and input sessions are scheduled:
- 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 9, in the Memorial Union Horizon Room
- 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, March 10, in the Memorial Union Horizon Room
- 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, in the main meeting room of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library
- 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, in the Memorial Union Horizon Room
Oregon State’s values serve as the foundation for the committee’s work. These values include striving to advance and support a welcoming, inclusive, diverse, respectful, trusting, safe and collaborative university community.
The committee expects to make a recommendation by the end of spring term 2020.
The recommendation will be made to Vice President for Finance and Administration Mike Green, who will then make final recommendations to OSU President Ed Ray.
