CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University and The CO will host the Corvallis Maker Fair, a hands-on celebration of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics education and innovation, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6 on the Corvallis campus.
The family-friendly fair, now in its sixth year, will be held in the Memorial Union Ballroom and the Student Experience Center Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.
“Maker” culture is a popular movement honoring craftsmanship and technology and the sharing of knowledge, skills and resources. The maker fair offers the OSU community and the public the opportunity to experience the culture and to participate in the work. The event also provides a forum for teaching the value of hands-on learning in classrooms from kindergarten through college.
Participants in the Maker Fair include local businesses, students, corporations and non-profit groups. Visitors also can experience virtual reality and more with the OSU Overclocking club, learn methods of wood turning with students from the OSU Wood Anatomy program, learn drypoint etching from printmaker Yuji Hiratsuka and more. Representatives from Corvallis DaVinci Days will showcase their kinetic sculptures.
OSU and the Maker Fair are also hosting an Oregon Makers Conference on April 5-6, with events happening on campus and at the Foundry in Corvallis. For more information or to register, contact Darby Giannone: [email protected].
The CO is a partnership of OSU faculty, staff and students and community members from the Corvallis area. Sponsors and partners for the 2019 event include the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, Oregon Sea Grant, OSU College of Forestry, OSU Division of Outreach and Engagement, OSU College of Liberal Arts and OSU Libraries and Press.
Registration information, a complete schedule, exhibitor list and additional details about the events are available on The CO’s website, www.corvallismakerfair.org.
