OSU president outlines promise of Central Oregon collaboration, higher education challenges

BEND, ORE. – Oregon State University President Edward J. Ray Monday applauded the regional collaboration underway in support of Oregon State University – Cascades during his annual State of the University Address. He also called upon local community members to join him in urging state leaders to increase funding for higher education in Central Oregon and around the state.

Head of FORCE Lab at OSU-Cascades to share latest on running shoes at Science Pub Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Christine Pollard, who directs the Functional Orthopedic Research Center of Excellence Laboratory – better known as the FORCE Lab – at Oregon State University-Cascades in Bend will present the lab’s unexpected findings on “maximal” or cushioned running shoes at the next Science Pub Corvallis. 

Her presentation on the popular shoes begins at 6 p.m., Jan. 14, 2019 in the Old World Deli, 341 2nd St. in Corvallis. It is free and open to the public.

OSU biologist advocates ecological approach to improving human health

BEND, Ore. – Chronic diseases like cancer, autoimmune disorders and obesity may ultimately vanquish the efforts of medical intervention unless people change their diet, an Oregon State University biologist argues in a paper published this week.

Matt Orr, assistant professor in the College of Science at OSU-Cascades, describes a “restoration ecology” approach toward patient health – every person is like an ecosystem, he says, and effectively fighting chronic disease requires fostering the communities of symbiotic gut microbes that people need for their health.

OSU president calls for continued funding for OSU-Cascades

BEND, Ore – Oregon State University President Edward J. Ray today said that university leaders will work to secure state bonding to help support continued expansion of the OSU-Cascades campus and the construction of a student success center during the 2019 legislative session.

Oregon State Legislature approves capital request for OSU-Cascades’ next academic building

BEND, Ore. –  Oregon State University's campus in Bend is a step closer to meeting the needs of its growing student enrollment following the Oregon Legislature on Saturday approving  $39 million in state-backed bonds for OSU-Cascades’ second academic building.

The facility will serve STEAM disciplines of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
