‘Body Marks’ exhibit on display at OSU’s Fairbanks Gallery in February

Feb. 4, 2019

CORVALLIS, Ore. – “Body Marks,” an exhibition of work by artists Ariel Baron-Robbins, Michael Namkung and Ellen Mueller, is on display in the Fairbanks Gallery of Art at Oregon State University in Corvallis now through Feb. 28.

Body Marks explores the various ways in which the body is used as a catalyst for artistic production. The exhibition includes works that use the body as a mark-making medium through physical performance and notions of the body in relation to the meaning of home, consumption and safety.

The three artists featured in the show survey the physical manifestation of drawing through non-traditional methods, and explore drawing in the digital realm.

Baron-Robbins is an artist and educator living in Miami, Florida. Her multidisciplinary work is focused on the process of drawing on the landscape using her body. She has exhibited work in numerous group exhibitions across the U.S., including at Krowswork Gallery in Oakland, California; Deffebach Gallery in Hudson, New York; and The Museum of Fine Arts in Tampa, Florida. She received her Master of Fine Art at the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Namkung is an artist, athlete and transformational coach whose work, “Drawing Gym,” has received awards from the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Tanne Foundation. The project is a hybrid art form that combines drawing with rigorous physical exercise. Namkung has exhibited work in galleries, museums, universities and public spaces worldwide, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Stanford University, Grace Cathedral of San Francisco and Museu de Arte Contemporaneo Niteroi (Brazil) and more.

Mueller has exhibited nationally and internationally as an interdisciplinary artist exploring issues related to the environment, hyperactive news media and corporate management systems. She creates experiences that engage with social and political issues through a variety of media. She is the director of the Master of Fine Arts program at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and has published two textbooks. She recently exhibited at Mana Contemporary’s Chicago, Jersey City and Miami locations.

Fairbanks Gallery of Art is OSU’s professional art gallery. Its mission is to initiate, produce and present scholarly visual art exhibitions to advance contact and dialogue with original works of art as an indispensable part of liberal art education.

The gallery is located in Fairbanks Hall, 220 SW 26th St., Corvallis. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hours are until 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month for the Corvallis Art Walk.
