CORVALLIS, Ore. – Auditions for Oregon State University Theatre’s spring production of “The Importance of Being Earnest” will be held at 6 p.m. on March 1-2 on the Withycombe Main Stage in Withycombe Hall, 2901 SW Campus Way in Corvallis.
The classic 1895 satirical play by Oscar Wilde follows the comic scheming of men-about-town Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing as they hurtle between townhouses and country estates, pursuing romantic interests while concealing their true identities.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, which can be found in PDF form here. Auditions are open to all OSU students, staff and faculty, as well as local community members. All characters will speak in a standard British dialect.
Rehearsals for the production will be held in Withycombe Hall and begin March 30, running from 2-6 p.m. on Sundays and 6:30-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Technical weekend is May 2-3 with tech rehearsals May 4-6. (Tech rehearsals are full run-throughs to ensure technical elements like lighting and sound work smoothly.)
Performances are scheduled for May 7-9 and 15-17, with a pick-up rehearsal May 14.
Those chosen for the cast must be available for all tech and dress rehearsals, performances, the pick-up rehearsal and a post-show strike after the closing performance.
