CORVALLIS, Ore. – The fifth Corvallis Queer Film Festival, featuring an all short film program, will run Feb. 21-23 at the Darkside Cinema in Corvallis.
More than 50 films, selected for their artful portrayals of a range of identities and experiences within the LGBTQ+ communities around the globe, will be shown at no charge during the festival.
Films include animation, experimental work, narrative shots and music videos. This year’s program also offers a closer look at innovative nonfiction/documentary short films and a set of new films from Pacific Northwest directors.
The 2019 festival will include short films that have shown at some of the world’s most prominent queer film festivals. Among the films in this year’s lineup:
- “Sisak,” from Indian director Faraz Arif Ansari
- “Burton Before and After,” by Oregon documentarian Courtney Herman
- “Burlypicks,” a world premiere of the new film by Jack Truman
- “Embodiment,” the first U.S. screening of the experimental documentary by Edwige Pezzulli and Giulia Prizzitano.
This year’s festival is organized by theme. On Thursday, Feb. 21, the 6 p.m. lineup features films about queer youth and young people living in queer families. The 7:45 p.m. lineup explores the challenges and joys of finding connection.
On Friday, Feb. 22, the 6 p.m. lineup features an edgier program of experimental work, while the 7:45 p.m. set features explicit sex and subversion themes. At 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 the festival closes with queer documentaries, followed at 7:45 p.m. by a collection of Pacific Northwest films and a talk-back session with directors in attendance.
The Corvallis Queer Film Festival is a community-centered project sponsored this year by Oregon State University’s School of Language, Culture, and Society; the School of Writing, Literature, and Film; and the Office of Institutional Diversity.
Admission to all showings is free. All programs contain adult themes and viewer discretion is advised. The short films showing at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 contain explicit sexual content; no one under age 18 will be admitted and identification will be required.
