CORVALLIS, Ore. – Anyone venturing onto the Oregon State University Corvallis campus in the last year has noticed how empty it is due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The emptiness struck Oregon State alumnus James Schupp, a Corvallis photographer. He decided to use his favorite artform to capture that uncanny feeling, and his photos are now on display in the Memorial Union Concourse on campus through June 11.
In the 62 photos on display, Schupp captures beautiful but deserted scenes he started photographing in March 2020. He has taken around four or five pictures a week on campus since the pandemic began in 2020, using both his iPhone and his Nikon.
Schupp’s day job is as a senior vice president at Wells Fargo Advisors. He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1978 and an M.B.A. in 1979, both from Oregon State. He has also contributed photographs to the university’s alumni magazine, the Oregon Stater.
The exhibit is free to visit, but visitors must wear face masks and observe OSU physical distancing protocols. Hours can be found at mu.oregonstate.edu/hours. To see more of Schupp’s work, go to www.acornridgegallery.com
