CORVALLIS, Ore. – Japanese guitarist Ikuo Inoue will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Oregon State University in Corvallis.
The performance is part of OSU’s new Guitar en Route Series, which is presented by Instructor Cameron O’Connor and the OSU guitar program.
Inoue will be joined by O’Connor and printmaker Yuji Hiratsuka, a professor of art at OSU, in a celebration of the music and art of Japan. The program includes works by Toru Takemitsu, Shingo Fujii, Joe Hisaishi and more.
Inoue is an award-winning guitarist who has performed as a guest artist at the Nagano Guitar Seminar, and in recital at the Ohno Studio in Osaka and the Gendai Guitar Salon in Tokyo. He was a semi-finalist at the Tokyo International Competition and first prize winner at the ASTA Guitar Competition in Los Angeles.
O’Connor, who joined the OSU music faculty in fall 2017, is a prizewinner in 10 international competitions, including the Frances Walton in Seattle and Tokyo International Competition in Japan. He has appeared as a guest artist at festivals throughout the country, including the Northwest Guitar Festival, Corvallis Guitar Festival, la Siempre Guitarra and others.
Hiratsuka’s work is included in public collections throughout the world, including The British Museum in the United Kingdom; Japan’s Tokyo Central Museum; the Panstwowe Museum in Poland; The House of Humor and Satire in Bulgaria; Cincinnati’s Art Museum; and the Portland Art Museum. He has been a faculty member at OSU since 1992.
