PORTLAND, Ore. – A professor from the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy will join Rep. Earl Blumenauer for a public forum on prescription drug prices Thursday, March 21, in Portland.
Blumenauer, who represents Oregon’s 3rd congressional district, and clinical professor Craig Williams will be part of a four-person panel discussion that begins at 5:30 p.m. at Madison High School, 2735 NE 82nd Ave.
The panel will also include Michelle Freedman from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, who will talk about insulin pricing, and Oregon Health & Science University bone marrow transplant coordinator Joan Morgan, who will share her family’s personal story regarding access to prescription drugs.
“Drug prices have risen at an alarming rate, and we need to protect the affordability of necessary medications,” Blumenauer said. “New drugs for cancer and rare diseases can cost more than $100,000 a year. Even generic medicines for chronic conditions, such as insulin, have seen prices triple or more between 2002 and 2013.”
Williams is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist and a fellow of the National Lipid Association. Pharmacotherapy refers to medical treatment by means of drugs.
Those wishing to attend the forum are encouraged to RSVP online as space is limited.
