CORVALLIS, Ore. – Poet Tomás Q. Morín will read at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Black Box Lab Theatre in Withycombe Hall on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow.
Morín is the author of two poetry books: “Patient Zero” and “A Larger Country,” which won the 2012 APR/Honickman Prize and was a runner-up for the PEN Osterweil Award.
Morín also co-edited the 2013 essay collection “Coming Close: Forty Essays on Philip Levine” and translated a 2014 edition of Pablo Neruda’s “The Heights of Macchu Picchu.” His poems have appeared in New England Review, Slate and Best New Poets, among other publications.
He is the recipient of scholarships and fellowships from the Idyllwild Summer Arts Program, the Fine Arts Work Center, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the New York State Summer Writers Institute. In 2020 he will be a Civitella Fellow in Italy.
Morín holds degrees from Texas State University and Johns Hopkins University and currently teaches at Drew University and the low residency MFA program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
The reading is part of the 2018-2019 Visiting Writers Series, which brings nationally acclaimed writers to OSU. This series is sponsored by the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing at OSU, with support from the OSU Libraries and Press; the OSU School of Writing, Literature, and Film; the College of Liberal Arts; Kathy Brisker and Tim Steele; and Grass Roots Books and Music.
