April 19, 2022

PORTLAND, Ore. – Several Oregon family businesses will be honored at the Oregon State University College of Business’ 2022 Excellence in Family Business Awards ceremony Friday, May 6.

The Papé Group, Inc, a family-owned enterprise founded in 1938 in Eugene, will receive the Dean’s Award for Family Business Leadership at the event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Downtown Portland. Over four generations, Papé has grown to become a leading supplier of construction, logging, material handling, landscaping and farm equipment throughout the West.

“It is always an honor and privilege to celebrate excellent family businesses throughout the state of Oregon,” said Tim Carroll, the Sara Hart Kimball Dean of the College of Business. “Our connection to family enterprises is embedded in our land grant mission and the work our Center for Family Enterprise does in the College of Business.”

Founded in 1985, the Center for Family Enterprise, formerly known as the Austin Family Business Program, provides inspiration, education, outreach and research to support family businesses. The awards program was launched in 1988 to focus solely on the accomplishments of Oregon’s family-owned businesses, regardless of industry, size or revenue.

“This year’s award winners highlight the breadth of industries that are thriving in Oregon and the families that make that happen,” said Ted Paterson, an associate professor of management and the center’s director.

The awards feature categories that reflect sound family business practices and achievement. This year’s honorees are:

  • Dean's Leadership Award in Family Business: The Papé Group, Inc., Eugene.
  • Family Harmony Award: Alyrica Networks, Philomath.
  • Business Renewal Award: Oregon Fruit and the Maletis family, Salem.
  • Generational Development Award: Andersen Construction, Portland.
  • Family Business Student of The Year Award: Robinson Joseph Nazareno Baniqued, Alyssandra's Lumpia Express, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The ceremony is sponsored by Morgan Stanley. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2022-excellence-in-family-business-awards-tickets-303077211097. The Hilton Downtown Portland is at 921 SW Sixth Ave.
